A video of Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch singing and dancing to The Fields of Athenry in a Lanzarote pub is proving popular on TikTok.

The clip shows the 61-year-old performing a rendition of the song at Paddy’s Point Gastropub and Grill in the resort town of Puerto del Carmen on the Spanish island.

He can be seen wearing a T-shirt and a pair of denim shorts, sandals, and a bum bag as he sings along, belting out the lyrics of the chorus with a Senegalese man nicknamed ‘Jimmy Barry Murphy’ after the Cork hurling manager.

The pub was decked out with Kildare GAA flags and tricolours for the evening, serving as a backdrop for the duet.

Hutch has been spending time between Lanzarote and his native Dublin since being acquitted by the non-jury Special Criminal Court last April following a mammoth 52-day trial for the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in 2016.

Despite evidence from his former co-accused Jonathan Dowdall, who turned State witness in the weeks before the trial began, Hutch was found not guilty of the charge and has been a free man now for over a year.

According to The Irish Sun, Hutch has reportedly opened up a series of bed and breakfasts in northern Lanzarote in recent months.

However, he has not been renting the properties out to tourists but instead leases rooms to workers in the area for “low prices”.

It comes after a nightmare week for the rival Kinahan cartel after a US judge ordered Daniel Kinahan and now defunct boxing agency MTK to pay damages of €8.7 million (US$9.7 million) to rival boxing promoter Moses Heredia.

The order, which brings to an end a four-year court battle in the US, now clears the way for Moses Heredia’s lawyers to begin targeting the assets of Kinahan, his wife Caoimhe Robinson and any associates holding assets for him.
