National champion has many people to inspire her as she defends her crown in the Dublin Marathon

​This time of year is always locked in the memory for Ann-Marie McGlynn.

Twenty-six years ago, she was an 18-year-old fresher in the first few months of an athletics scholarship in UCD. It wasn’t her original plan; she was meant to enrol on scholarship with the prestigious Providence College where other top Irish female athletes went but she “chickened out” – as she puts it – of the switch to the USA.
