He first joined the national broadcasters ranks in 1985 before moving to Today FM. In 2015, the Ray D’Arcy Show returned to RTÉ.

Mr D’Arcy said he was “delighted to be inducted into the IMRO Radio Awards Hall of Fame and to be recognised in such illustrious company as my fellow inductees”.

“I am privileged to love what I do every day and would like to thank my loyal audience who tune in on a daily basis,” he told RTÉ.

The Irish Music Right’s Organisation (IMRO) said that the four nominees “represent the heart and soul of radio in Ireland”.

“Their voices have resonated across the airwaves for decades, entertaining, informing, and inspiring countless listeners,” it said.

“From independent local stations to national broadcasters, they have shaped the nation’s soundscape, leaving a legacy that will be cherished for generations to come.”

The IMRO Radio Awards Hall of Fame recognises “exceptional careers in broadcasting and the ongoing passion and commitment to the industry”.

“It is a tremendous honour for IMRO to sponsor the prestigious Radio Awards Hall of Fame once again. We are delighted to recognise and celebrate the exceptional contributions of Hugo Duncan, Carol Dooley, Ray D’Arcy and Eddie Caffrey,” said IMRO chief executive Victor Finn.

“Their legacy within the industry is undeniable, and they now take their well-deserved place among Ireland’s most esteemed broadcasters.

The IMRO Radio Awards will be held during an annual gala on October 4 at the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny.
