Kaley Cuoco’s returning crime drama gets first-look trailer

Based on a True Story spoilers follow.

Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina have some more murderous mess on their hands in the trailer for season 2 of Based on a True Story.

The dark comedy returns with a second instalment, seeing Cuoco’s true-crime obsessed Ava and her husband Nathan (Messina) dealing with the ups and downs of parenthood while a copycat killer is on the loose.

In season 1, the pair decide to use their accidental connection to an infamous serial killer to their advantage and create a true-crime podcast with his help.

In the upcoming chapter, the reformed Westside Ripper aka Matt (Tom Bateman) gets engaged to Ava’s younger sister, Tory (Liana Liberato).

As a new murderer emulating Matt’s gruesome killings is at large, it’s up to new parents Ava and Nathan to find out the truth and protect Tory as their bizarre friendship with Matt continues. The former killer swears he has nothing to do with the new wave of terrible crimes, but is he lying?

Expect more silliness, more evidence boards and a few unexpected scenarios as Ava and Nathan’s reluctant investigation leads them to a sex party.

Season 2 will also star Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Melissa Fumero as Drew, a new mum who befriends Ava and may have a secret or two of her own.

In Digital Spy‘s four-star review of season 1, Based on a True Story has been praised for its self-aware, unserious tone despite the nuanced subject matter.

The show occasionally takes aim at the true-crime craze and the industry of exploiting tragedy for content, but never takes itself too seriously – an approach which ultimately makes the absurd premise work.

Based on a True Story season 2 premiers on November 21 on Peacock in the US. In the UK, the show airs on Sky and NOW.
