Kirk Herbstreit talks ‘major hurdles’ for Dallas Cowboys, works Raising Cane’s ‘shift’ with Ben

Kirk Herbstreit had a chance to see the Dallas Cowboys up and close and personal earlier this year as he and Al Michaels called the team’s Week 4 game against the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football. That was a game the Cowboys won to improve to 2-2, but there’s a lot of doubt surrounding the team after losing to the Detroit Lions 47-9 at home last week. On3 attended a Raising Cane’s event featuring Herbstreit in Austin, Texas this past weekend and asked him if the Cowboys could turn things around.

“I think they have some major hurdles as opposed to just, ‘Hey, you know what? We got to practice harder and get better.’ Offensive line, running back, finding other receivers besides CeeDee [Lamb]. I think they’re really facing some real concerns,” Herbstreit said. “Be interesting if they address them. They’ve had a lot of injuries, so that hasn’t helped them.

“But they seem to be a team that has enough ability, with the quarterback, CeeDee, the defense that they have. When they’re healthy, they look like a playoff team. But like a lot of teams, they’ve endured so much that they’ve had to try to overcome with those injuries.”

Herbstreit added: “Yeah, it is Dak Prescott. At any point, they can win a game and get on a little bit of a roll. But in the meantime, I think it’s only fair to wonder where they’re going to go from here. But that running back spot I know has become, ‘Why didn’t they get Derrick Henry? Why didn’t they do this?’ I’m sure it’s a motivating factor for the guys that are there. But I think they’re swimming upstream until they can get healthy.”

The Cowboys are currently 3-3 and sit in third place in the NFC East. They have yet to win a home game this year and have lost the last four home contests dating back to the playoffs last season.

Along with Herbstreit talking about the Cowboys, he worked a “shift” at the Raising Cane’s near the University of Texas in Austin. His dog Ben was there with him, and they were joined by Raising Cane’s founder Todd Graves and mascot Cane III. Herbstreit was there to promote the Georgia vs. Texas game that was played on Saturday night. Georgia defeated Texas 30-15.

“I’m so grateful to be a part of this experience and while you’re here, enjoy some lunch and the best chicken there is!” Herbstreit told the fans at the event.
