Leinster heading for bumper pay day as 55,000 tickets sold for Croke Park clash against Munster

Leinster beat Northampton Saints in Croke Park earlier this year

Leinster are heading towards a bumper pay day after selling more than 55,000 tickets for their Croke Park clash with Munster.

The October 12 meeting will see the two teams go head to head at the home of the GAA for the first time since the famous European Cup semi-final in 2009.

And the decision by Leinster to stage the derby on Jones’ Road appears to have caught the public imagination.

It will be Leinster’s second match at Croke Park in 2024 after they beat Northampton Saints 20-17 in front of a full house in May’s Champions Cup semi-final.

The proceeds of that game were collected by tournament organisers EPCR, but the tickets sold for next month’s game will go directly into Leinster’s coffers.

With the RDS closed for renovations, the province are playing the majority of their home games at the Aviva Stadium this season, but have the option of staging their bigger fixtures at Croke Park.

They have sold 15,000 season tickets for the upcoming season, up from 12,000 last year.

It is envisaged that only the lower bowl of the Aviva, which has a capacity of around 20,000, will be open for some regular season games like the first home match against the Dragons, while they have scope to adjust that upwards if there is demand for tickets.

Leinster will stage their two European pool home games against Clermont Auvergne and Bath at Lansdowne Road, but if they secure a glamorous fixture in the knockouts they’ll move it to Croke Park.
