Man (20s) dies in hospital three days after Dunmore, Galway crash

The driver died following a serious single-vehicle crash in Co Galway on Friday

A man in his 20s has died following a serious single-vehicle crash in Co Galway on Friday.

The driver had previously been taken to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious injuries after the car crash on the R360 at Ballintava, Dunmore, Galway on Friday morning, 18 October at around 2.30am.

The male passenger of the car, also in his 20s, was taken to the same hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The road had previously closed for technical examination and later reopened.

In an update today, a garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí continue to investigate a serious road traffic collision which occurred in Ballintava, Dunmore, Co. Galway on 18th October, 2024.

“The male driver (aged in his 20s) has since passed away.”

Gardaí previously issued an appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

“Additionally, they are requesting those with camera footage, including motorists with dashcam, who were travelling in the area of Ballintava, Dunmore, Co. Galway on Friday 18th October between 1.30am and 2.30am, to make it available to investigating gardaí,” a spokesperson said last week.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Tuam Garda Station on 093 70840, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
