A man and woman have appeared in court today in Kerry charged with the murder of a 36-year-old father earlier this year.
22-year-old Tarbert woman, Abigail Lynch, has been charged with the murder of Gerard Kennelly in Knockanure on May 27, 2024.
Ms Lynch of 47 Woodview Place, Tarbert, appeared before Listowel District Court today.
Sgt Tommy Griffin told the court that he arrested Ms Lynch in Tarbert on Wednesday afternoon and that she was charged at Listowel Garda station at 5pm yesterday, October 30. She made no reply when charged.
As it is a murder charge, any bail application must be made to the High Court. Legal aid was granted after the court heard she is on a disability payment and has no assets or savings. She was remanded in custody to Limerick prison.
She is represented by solicitor Padraig O’Connell who sought appropriate medical attention for his client amid issues with her mental health.
Ms Lynch is to appear via video link at Tralee District Court on November 6.
Meanwhile, Kieran Brady of Athea in Co Limerick has also been charged with the murder of Mr Kennelly. He had previously been charged with the unlawful killing of Mr Kennelly.
Sgt Tim Walsh gave evidence to the Court of charging Kieran Brady with the murder of Gerard Kennelly, at 11.26am this morning at Listowel Court. Mr Brady made no reply to the charge.
He is represented by solicitor Pat Mann, who told the Court that an application for bail will be made in the High Court. He also said that bail had been granted already to his client – on July 11 – on the same facts, but on the lesser charge of unlawful killing.
He said his client was unable to achieve those bail conditions, and Judge Waters replied that that was a matter for another court. Mr Brady was remanded in custody, to Mountjoy Prison, to Tralee District Court on November 6 at which he is expected to appear via video link.
