The couple — Ashleigh, 36, and Jason, 38, — suffered serious injuries after they were struck.

They were first taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Royal Perth Hospital.

Ashleigh suffered a broken vertebrae and needed 170 stitches in her leg while Jason is riddled with broken bones including his ribs, eye socket, nose, lower back and leg.

“As we’ve turned he’s a metre away from us he’s at full revs, I’ve had enough time to grab her by the hips and push her to the side and we both got sent flying,” Jason told 7NEWS.

“I was yelling out to Ash to see if she was ok, because I couldn’t get to her, I was metres away and I was laying on the floor and I tried to stand but completely collapsed, I knew my legs were busted.”

The pair were taking Jason’s teenage son and his girlfriend to get ice cream when the road rage incident happened.

Jason said the teenagers were left traumatised after watching him and Ashleigh get “cleaned up by a car after him trying to run us off the road several times”.

Neighbours rushed out to help the couple.

Jason is now set to have surgery in the coming days with his recovery in hospital expected to take weeks.

The heavy haulage pilot will be unable to work for up to six months.

“I’m now going to struggle to pay rent to support my son in Year 10, it was his 16th birthday on Friday so we’ve spent the whole of his birthday in hospital,” Jason said.
