Marvel’s WandaVision Spinoff’s Hidden Detail Makes The Scarlet Witch’s Story Even Darker

Marvel’s WandaVision Spinoff’s Hidden Detail Makes The Scarlet Witch’s Story Even Darker

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Agatha All Along episodes 1 & 2Agatha All Along is the first spinoff series to come from WandaVision, and the new entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings along a hidden detail that makes the Scarlet Witch’s actions have an even bigger impact. Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff has gone through a lot. The Scarlet Witch’s MCU timeline includes events on wildly different sides of the hero-to-villain spectrum. While Wanda started as a villain on Ultron’s side due to a tragic childhood event, the character would eventually go through a major change, becoming a hero and a member of the Avengers.

However, everything started to change when Wanda lost the love of her life, Paul Bettany’s Vision. Disney+’s WandaVision, one of the MCU’s best TV shows, followed Wanda as she processed her grief through changing reality, casting the town of Westview and its population into a Hex that trapped them, with the citizens living out various decades of sitcoms. WandaVision‘s ending led to the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where a villainous Wanda died at the end. Despite the Scarlet Witch’s death, Agatha All Along shows that Wanda’s actions had a long-lasting impact.

Almost Half Of Westview’s Population Left After WandaVision

Wanda’s Hex Left A Mark On The Town

Agatha All Along‘s two-episode premiere featured a sad hidden detail that shows how those affected by the Scarlet Witch’s actions in Westview are trying to move on years after they took place. The new MCU series starts three years after the events of WandaVision, with Agatha still trapped as her Agnes persona, just as Wanda left her. Agatha All Along has a quick moment that shows the “Welcome to Westview” sign, and that is where a tragic detail shows just how much Wanda Maximoff changed the lives of the town’s residents.

While more than half of Westview’s citizens stayed,
Agatha All Along
shows that they try not to mention the Scarlet Witch’s name and that the plot of land Vision bought for him and Wanda has been taken over by anti-Scarlet Witch graffiti.

As noted by TVLine, who spoke to Agatha All Along and WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer, the new series shows Westview has 2,251 citizens, making it 42% fewer people than there were when WandaVision started. According to Schaeffer, that detail was very much by design, as the team behind Agatha All Along asked themselves “What is Westview like after the hex comes down?” Schaeffer talked about the traumatizing experience people had under the Hex, which led to different forms of coping and moving on, such as the mass exodus. The Scarlet Witch’s actions made nearly half of Westview’s population leave.

WandaVision’s Finale Already Teased The Scarlet Witch’s Lasting Impact On Westview

Wanda Maximoff Made A Major Sacrifice To Undo The Pain She Caused

The Scarlet Witch’s Westview Hex was always going to have repercussions for those affected by it. WandaVision‘s series finale made sure to note that the event coming out of Wanda Maximoff’s grief would never be enough explanation for Westview’s residents. After giving up Vision and her sons so that she could restore Westview to its original state, the Scarlet Witch walked among those she had imprisoned as part of her Hex, with Westview’s residents clearly furious with her. Monica Rambeau then said a very controversial line,They’ll never know what you sacrificed for them.”

Sure, Wanda put a lot on the line. Inside the Hex, she could be happy with Vision and their twin sons. In order to free the population of Westview, she had to lose her loved ones all over again, which sent her on a tragic path in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, Wanda actively hurt and imposed major trauma on Westview’s residents, who were forced to act against their will in a make-believe reality. Many were so traumatized that they had to abandon their homes to escape the damage the Scarlet Witch had done to them.

Can The Scarlet Witch Be Redeemed?

It Will Be A Tough Road For Wanda

Currently, the Scarlet Witch is dead in the MCU, with Agatha All Along confirming that Mount Wundagore’s destruction killed Wanda. However, given how Elizabeth Olsen wants to return and Wanda has become one of the MCU’s most popular characters, it is hard to see a future for the MCU that does not include the Scarlet Witch. That said, Wanda will have a long path to being worthy of redemption when she comes back. The Scarlet Witch’s actions in WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness were terrible, impacting several characters on Earth-616 and the multiverse.

The Scarlet Witch’s murderous rampage and the Westview Hex could prove too much for Wanda to turn around, especially if Earth-838 comes calling due to her killing the Illuminati.

Wanda’s reality-altering powers and multiverse experience could make her a major weapon for the Avengers as the Multiverse Saga comes crashing, helping the MCU’s heroes take down Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. Saving the multiverse after wreaking havoc across it could be the ideal way to redeem Wanda. However, the Scarlet Witch’s murderous rampage and the Westview Hex could prove too much for Wanda to turn around, especially if Earth-838 comes calling due to her killing the Illuminati. It remains to be seen if Agatha All Along will further address WandaVision‘s events and the Scarlet Witch’s possible return to life.
