It’s game day. It’s the Third Saturday in October. No. 11 Tennessee (5-1, 2-1 SEC) hosts No. 7 Alabama (5-1, 2-1) Saturday in a 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC at a sold-out, oranged-out Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.

Sean McDonough will be on the play-by-play call for ABC, with former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy as the analyst and Molly McGrath as the sideline reporter. Bob Kesling, Pat Ryan, Brent Hubbs and Jayson Swain will provide the Tennessee radio broadcast on The Vol Network.

Tennessee as of Friday afternoon a was a three-point home underdog, according to The Action Network, with the total set at 57.5.

The Third Saturday in October

Alabama leads the ‘Third Saturday in October’ rivalry 59-39-7. Tennessee won the last game in Knoxville, the 52-49 thriller in 2022 that ended with Chase McGrath’s walk-off 40-yard field goal as time expired.

Tennessee built a 20-7 lead at halftime in Tuscaloosa last season, before the Crimson Tide answered with 27 straight points in the second half to win 34-20. Alabama scored 41 seconds into the second half and had three touchdowns in the first nine minutes of the third quarter to regain control and take the lead. 

Tennessee’s win in 2022 snapped a streak of 15 straight Alabama wins in the series. The Vols won seven in a row between 1995 and 2001 and 10 of 12 between 1995 and 2006.

Vols, Tide rebounded from losses with wins on Saturday

Tennessee (5-1, 2-1 SEC) beat Florida 23-17 in overtime Saturday night at Neyland Stadium. The Vols trailed 10-0 midway through the third quarter, rallied with 17 unanswered points then had to respond again in overtime after the Gators tied the game on a 27-yard touchdown pass with 26 seconds left.

The Vols rushed 43 times as a team for 171 yards and three touchdowns, with Dylan Sampson going for 112 yards on 27 carries while scoring all three times on the ground. Nico Iamaleava completed 16 of 26 passes for 169 yards and an interception.

Alabama (5-1, 2-1) rebounded from its 40-35 at Vanderbilt last week by hanging on for a 27-25 win over South Carolina Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.

Tennessee is 4-2 against the spread this season, failing to cover as a 14-point road favorite at Arkansas in the 19-14 loss last week and again as a 14.5-point favorite in the win over Florida Saturday night. The Vols are 2-1 against the spread in home games.

Alabama is 3-3 against the spread overall and 1-1 against the spread on the road. The Crimson Tide are 2-3 as favorite and 1-0 as an underdog.
