Helping fire departments to make things more livable for their teams, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation led a special pancake breakfast in October at Fire Station 78 in Studio City. Nearly 500 people visited the station at 4041 Whitsett Avenue, where workers from IHOP donated their services alongside contributors from The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Shake Shack.
“It was amazing,” said Robin Blau, program manager with Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation (LAFDF). “There were droves of people and a ton of little kids that live in the neighborhood.” Blau said the event was part of her group’s Adopt-A-Fire Station program. “We basically fund things within the station that the city doesn’t pay for,” she said.
Tickets for the pancake event were sold at $8 per person. The station also sold merchandise including t-shirts, and people could also donate directly.
Firefighters from neighboring Station 60 were also there and on call as a backup during the event. “The battalion chief was there. A lot of LAPD guys were there … It just brought out a lot of people,” Blau said. “It was definitely buzzing.”
