People might not want a job for life anymore – but they do want jobs that work for their lives, says Public Jobs chief

When Margaret McCabe joined the civil service, getting a job mattered more to her and most young people than what that job might actually involve. At the time, it was common for teenagers to join the public sector straight from school at as young as 16. Only a few came in at a slightly older age from university

The Leitrim native won a place as a clerical assistant, the bottom rung of the ladder, and moved to Dublin in 1979.
