Portland starts week with a wet Monday, thunderstorms possible by afternoon; high 59

Grab a jacket as you head out the door early Monday as the Portland/Vancouver area gets hit with a showery day.

The National Weather Service says thunderstorms chances in the Willamette Valley and southwest Washington lowlands sit at 10-20% with the most likely timing being after 5 p.m.

Portland will see a short break in shower activity late in the morning, but rain returns by about 2 p.m. and lasts through the evening commute. Winds will be breezy in the afternoon, with gusts of up to 20 mph possible. The high will be near 59 degrees.

Skies are expected to clear overnight enough to possibly create a foggy morning Tuesday. After any fog and low clouds clear, Portland will see a gradually sunny day with a high of about 58 degrees.

A high pressure ridge builds over the Pacific Northwest beginning Tuesday keeping rain at by at least through Thursday.

Portland will start Wednesday with mostly cloudy skies, but clear to mostly sunny by the afternoon. The high will reach near 57 degrees.

There could be some frost on the ground Thursday and Friday morning as clear skies contribute to chilly overnight temps.

Thursday is looking mostly sunny. The high will reach about 58 degrees.

Extended forecasts show rain returning by Friday, but the amount is still in question. Most models show rain continuing into the weekend.
