Johnson, 23, has been sidelined with a day-to-day lower-body injury. However, this roster move indicates that the Newport Beach, California is ready to return to the ice. He will now look to make an impact with the Amerks, as it will help his chances of being recalled by the Sabres.

The Sabres selected Johnson as the 31st overall pick of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. After spending four seasons with the University of Minnesota, the 6-foot-1 defender began his professional career last season. In 41 games with the Sabres, he had seven assists, 39 blocks, and a plus-3 rating.
