SMU vs. Pitt: How to watch, channel, streaming

The SMU Mustangs host undefeated Pitt in Dallas on Saturday night for a primetime conference matchup. Both teams are currently ranked in the AP Top 25 with SMU at No. 20 and the Panthers at No. 18.

The Mustangs sit at 7-1 coming off of a 28-27 overtime victory against the Blue Devils. SMU needed a blocked field goal to send the game to overtime, then the defense closed it out by denying Duke a crucial two-point conversion.

While the Mustangs were staving off a second loss, Pitt kept up its winning ways with a dominant game against Syracuse. They beat the Orange 41-17 after notching three defensive scores, among others.

Despite their narrow win over Duke last week, the SMU Mustangs enter the matchup against Pittsburgh as a solid 7.5-point favorite, according to FanDuel on Thursday. The line has shifted since the open (-6.5), with SMU adding a point on the visiting Panthers. The over/under total for the game is currently 58.5 points. Moreover, SMU’s moneyline to win is -275, while Pitt’s moneyline is +220.

After Pitt’s stout defensive performance against Syracuse last week, SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee explained what the Mustangs will need to do to put points up on the board on Saturday.

“Teams like Syracuse who all they want to do is throw it, [you] saw how that looked,” Lashlee said. “And then teams that only run it, struggle. I think to beat any good defense like Pitt, you’ve got to have the balance and that’s what we’re gonna have to do on Saturday.”

Mustangs starting quarterback Kevin Jennings started the week as questionable for the key conference matchup and the Panthers also had a question mark next to starter Eli Holstein. However, heading into the weekend, it’s likely that both will play.

“Eli Holstein is ready to go and got cleared today,” Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi told 93.7 The Fan on Wednesday. “Eli Holstein is ready to roll. That’s excellent news.”

ESPN’s Pete Thamel shared on Wednesday night that Jennings has worked in limited capacity in practice this week and is expected to give it a go on Saturday. This weekend is Homecoming on the Hilltop, which should add even more buzz to the top-25 matchup.
