Met Éireann has issued a status Yellow rain and wind warning for Dublin and Wicklow from noon today as heavy rain and strong gusts will sweep through the capital.

The warning will take effect from midday and is in place until 8pm.

Met Éireann is warning of the potential for spot flooding and transport disruption in places.

Conditions in the capital will be very wet and cloudy to start this morning with bands of rain becoming widespread and heavy at times.

Met Éireann said: “The rain will be heaviest and most persistent across eastern areas with spot flooding possible. Northerly winds will be fresh and gusty at times with highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.”

The heavy and persistent rain will gradually clear southwards through the evening but it will remain rather cloudy.

Met Éireann forecasts that strong and gusty northerly winds will gradually ease too with lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees.

Things are set to improve tomorrow however, as a cooler and rather cloudy start to the day will see a good scattering of showers drifting down from the north.

There will be some sunny spells later in the afternoon as the northerly breeze weakens with highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.

Elsewhere, north Ulster will see some drier weather into this evening with highs of 9 to 13 degrees. Tonight will start cloudy and wet in many areas before clearing southwards. Temperatures will go to lows of 6 to 9 degrees.

Met Éireann’s outlook for the week is mixed with some rain on the way but bright, sunny spells as well. There will be scattered showers across most of the country on Friday with just isolated showers in the east and southeast.

Saturday looks set to be a nice autumn’s day, with cool temperatures and sunny spells. There will be a few well scattered showers, mainly in the west and north, with highs of 11 to 13 degrees.

Rain in the southwest will spread across the country on Sunday morning, heavy at times with spot flooding possible in Munster and Leinster.
