A Fine Gael TD has described an €8 million investment in the Garda’s riot squad as “essential” due to a rise in public order incidents across the country.
Deputy Alan Farrell said that the €3m spent on the unit over the past 18 months, along with a further €5m allocation in the budget, has been necessary following riots in the capital and other incidents nationwide.
