The Coronas’ Danny O’Reilly: ‘It comes with the territory. Girlfriends know what they are getting into with me’

Twenty years on from their humble beginnings as a student band, The Coronas are about to release their eighth album. Here, the trio talk about how friendship has been key to their longevity, the US deal that could have changed their lives and writing about real-life break-ups in their songs

Perhaps it is the frenetic activity on the tennis courts, or the exertions of the padel players, or the steady stream of joggers that pass us by, but it’s hardly surprising that choosing to meet the Coronas in Dublin’s Bushy Park prompts much discussion about sport and fitness.

The three members — frontman Danny O’Reilly, bassist Graham Knox and drummer Conor Egan — are no strangers to this verdant place, having grown up, respectively, in neighbouring Harold’s Cross, Rathfarnham and Terenure, and with a rare stretch of sunshine in what’s been a disappointing summer, it feels like a good idea to eschew the indoors and to take a stroll-and-chat here.
