Tom Holland offers exciting Spider-Man 4 update

Tom Holland has offered an exciting update on a fourth Spider-Man film, sharing that the script “lit a fire” within him.

The actor was last seen as Peter Parker in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, a Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure that saw the web-slinging superhero traverse the multiverse.

With the events of the film leaving lasting consequences for the character, fans have been eager to see Holland don the suit once more, and he shared on The Rich Roll podcast that he had recently read the script for the fourth film in the series.

“It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job,” he explained. “I read it three weeks ago, and it really lit a fire in me. Zendaya and I sat down, read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room.”

Though Holland and Zendaya are almost certainly reprising their roles, there will be a change in the director’s chair, with Jon Watts – who also directed Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home – being replaced by Destin Daniel Cretton.

Holland’s latest update comes months after Kevin Feige – the president of Marvel Studios – shared that work was underway on the project, though it was slow progress given the hunt for a new director.

“Amy [Pascal] and I are working on it. We have writers who are going to be delivering us a draft relatively soon,” he said in July. “Jon did three of the best Spider-Man films ever for us. He’s got lots of things going on now, so we’ll probably be looking for somebody else just because he’s busy.”

For Holland, the film will offer him a chance to reprise the role he “owes his life to”, with the star saying in April: “The simple answer is that I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films. I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home is available to buy now on Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and other digital retailers.
