Trump milks Biden’s garbage gaffe in insult-laden stump speech in Wisconsin

Former President Donald Trump made President Joe Biden’s “garbage” gaffe a central theme in his campaign rallies Wednesday. He also continued to take shots at his Democratic opponent Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Her gross incompetence disqualifies her from being president of the United States,” Trump said during a rally in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Wednesday evening. “No one respects her, no one trusts her, no one takes her seriously.”

Trump rode into the Wisconsin event in the front seat of a personalized garbage truck, donning a neon orange trash collector’s vest. The move was in reference to Biden’s statement Tuesday, calling supporters of the former president “garbage.”

“How do you like my garbage truck?” Trump asked a group of reporters. “This truck is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden.”

Republican presidential nominee, former President Donald Trump holds a press conference from inside trash hauler at Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport on October 30, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. With less than a week until Election Day, Trump is campaigning for re-election in the battleground states of North Carolina and Wisconsin.

The Harris campaign mocked the stunt, with director of rapid response Ammar Moussa likening the moment to 1988 Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis’ failed photo op in a military tank at a Detroit campaign stop.

Still continuing to sport the bright vest while on stage, Trump kicked off his evening remarks by talking about Biden’s comments: “They treat our whole campaign like garbage,” Trump said of the president and Harris. And he complained of Democrats calling him a “Nazi” and “fascist,” after his former chief of staff John Kelly said in interviews that Trump had previously made positive comments about Adolf Hitler.

Trump, meanwhile, did his own fair share of condemning.

“Without question, my supporters are of far higher quality than (Biden and Harris),” he said at the opening of his Green Bay event.

The former president himself has in the past used the words “garbage” and “scum” to refer to his political opponents. He has also described Harris and her allies as “Marxists,” communists,” and “low IQ” individuals − insults he repeated throughout the day Wednesday.

“Some people you just can’t get along with,” Trump told supporters in Rocky Mount, N.C.
