Wexford granny will ‘go to prison’ before tearing down home built without planning permission

Mary Newman has spent nearly €40,000 on a granny flat in the backgarden of her home in north Wexford.

An elderly woman claims she would “go to prison” and “chain herself” to an illegally built granny flat in her garden before she’d ever take it down.

70-year-old grandmother Mary Newman has been left devastated as an application for retention permission for a granny flat she built in the garden of her home in Hazelwood, Gorey was refused by Wexford County Council (WCC). However, she’s refusing to tear it down and says she’ll fight the council to be able to keep it.
