The FBI’s report on violent crime in 2023 shows a 3.0 percent decrease compared to 2022, but the National Crime Victimization Survey and Council on Criminal Justice surveys show that violent crime has risen by 19 percent and 24 percent respectively, and the National Retail Federation reports that retail theft has increased by 11 percent in the same period.
