Wildlife trust launches £1m restoration fund

A wildlife trust has launched an appeal to raise £1m over the next three years.

Herefordshire Wildlife Trust said it hoped its Nature Recovery Fund would kickstart various projects to help replanting in areas depleted as a a result of climate change.

“Wildlife cannot adapt quickly enough to the changes that we’re seeing in our climate,” spokeswoman Frances Weeks said.

Replanting wheats, grass and other plants would help restore hectares of depleted woodland and help bring back adders, water voles and other species disappearing from the landscape, she added.

“We work with farmers and landowners to help support and advise them on how to better manage their land for wildlife.

“It’s one big joint effort, it’s not about a few of our staff doing things here and there, it’s about us collaborating to make that big difference.”
