A woman, aged in her 60s, has drown off the coast of north Dublin.
Emergency services were alerted to a woman encountering difficulties while swimming in Portmarnock at about 1.30pm this afternoon.
The RNLI rescue helicopter 116 and Howth coastguard arrived at the scene and located the woman shortly after 3pm.
The woman was taken to Beaumont Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Emergency services were alerted shortly after 3pm this afternoon, Monday, 7th October 2024, when a woman in her 60s was found unresponsive in the water at Portmarnock Strand by Coast Guard.
“She was taken to Beaumont Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
“Gardaí were notified and the Coroner has since been informed.”
A post-mortem examination will be arranged and foul play is not suspected.
