Locals in the New Oak estate expressed shock at the news this morning.

“It’s so sad. The news has put a dampener on the whole area,” a neighbour told the Irish Independent.

“I knew the young lad who died as I looked after him when he was a baby. He was a good, grand chap.

“He has two small kids so that makes it even more terribly sad. It’s just so shocking to open your curtains in the morning and see police cars all over the place and tape everywhere. It’s absolutely heartbreaking.”

Another neighbour said: “This is a very quiet community. Nothing really goes on out here. It’s a shock, it’s really shocking. The waste of a young life.
