2 rounds of storms expected to move through Chicagoland on Tuesday

It’ll be a stormy Tuesday throughout Chicagoland.

Two rounds of storms are set to move through the area, one during the morning and one during the afternoon.

The threat for severe weather remains low for most of Chicagoland, but the threat increases to moderate in some areas to the south/southeast for the afternoon round of storms.

The first line of storms is expected to weaken as it moves west to east, since there won’t be any daytime heating yet. Those storms should reach the western part of Chicagoland around 7 a.m. and move through the city around 9 or 10 a.m.

The main threat for the morning storms will be heavy downpours and lightning, along with a small chance for strong winds.

Another round of storms will then move through Chicagoland in the early afternoon through about 5 p.m. That round will be more scattered, but it will also bring the threat of hail and a low tornado threat.

Temperatures, meanwhile, will reach into the low to mid-70s.

Wednesday will bring another chance for storms, with temps well into the mid-70s again. Then a cool-off comes for Thursday as we head into Mother’s Day weekend.
