In one of the scrapyards, Atacadão das Peças, on Estrada do Tingui, the existence of new car parts caught the attention of Detran agents and civil police officers who were participating in the action. Next to the unit, in a shed owned by the same owner, the team also found carcasses of vehicles. In another establishment inspected, on Estrada Rio-São Paulo, parts and carcasses of vehicles without receipts were also found.
According to the Detran.RJ inspector, Daniel Bandeira, checking is a practice of the operation to identify possible irregularities. The establishments will be closed, and the owners will have up to 30 days to prove the origin of all the pieces. If this does not happen, all material will be seized and taken to a scrap metal company for destruction.
“Campo Grande is a neighborhood where the rate of vehicle theft is high. We will continue with the actions, with the aim of encouraging the accreditation of all scrap yards in the state”, said Bandeira.
This is the 11th action of Operation Desmonte since August last year. To date, more than 500 tons of scrap have been seized and destroyed. With the task force’s inspection actions, more than 120 companies in the sector are already seeking to regularize their documentation to work legally.
