Task force bans junkyards in the West Zone | Rio de Janeiro

Rio- Two scrapyards were closed in Campo Grande, in the West Zone of Rio, this Wednesday (17). The action was carried out by Operation Dismonte, by agents from the State Government task force. They found that the establishments did not have a licensing document issued by Detran.RJ and did not prove, with invoices, the origin of the material found. The owners were taken to the 35th DP (Campo Grande), which opened an investigation to investigate possible irregularities.

In one of the scrapyards, Atacadão das Peças, on Estrada do Tingui, the existence of new car parts caught the attention of Detran agents and civil police officers who were participating in the action. Next to the unit, in a shed owned by the same owner, the team also found carcasses of vehicles. In another establishment inspected, on Estrada Rio-São Paulo, parts and carcasses of vehicles without receipts were also found.

According to the Detran.RJ inspector, Daniel Bandeira, checking is a practice of the operation to identify possible irregularities. The establishments will be closed, and the owners will have up to 30 days to prove the origin of all the pieces. If this does not happen, all material will be seized and taken to a scrap metal company for destruction.

“Campo Grande is a neighborhood where the rate of vehicle theft is high. We will continue with the actions, with the aim of encouraging the accreditation of all scrap yards in the state”, said Bandeira.

The task force is coordinated by Detran.RJ and has the participation of the Civil and Military Police, the State Environmental Institute (Inea) and the Finance Department, through State Inspection. Operation Desmonte was created by the State Government, in August last year, to combat the irregular trade in vehicle parts and carcasses and reduce car theft and theft in the State of Rio de Janeiro.

This is the 11th action of Operation Desmonte since August last year. To date, more than 500 tons of scrap have been seized and destroyed. With the task force’s inspection actions, more than 120 companies in the sector are already seeking to regularize their documentation to work legally.
