SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA/WGN) — The Illinois State Capitol building was evacuated Monday following a threatening 911 call.
An ‘all clear’ has since been given.
Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias shared on social media that the State Capitol building was evacuated after a threatening 911 call made just before 1 p.m. triggered the alert system.
In an update, Giannoulias said on social media that no explosive devices were found and employees were let back into the building around 1:45 p.m.
It’s the second time in as many days that the Illinois State Capitol has faced a threat that was later deemed non-credible as the building was placed on lockdown Sunday due to a bomb threat.
According to the Illinois General Assembly’s website, lawmakers are on recess this week and are scheduled to return on April 30.
