“Blessed Mexico, so close to God and not so far from the United States,” said the president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who indicated that North America must unite into a community just as the European Union once did.
He pointed out that at the moment the investments that the private initiative of the United States has made and the public investment that Mexico has made is what has caused the country is among those with the lowest unemployment rate currently.
Given this, he affirmed that uniting in a community is convenient for both the United States and Mexico, although he clarified that national sovereignty should not be lost in this community.
“The important thing here is how to strengthen that integration and commitment that is convenient for the two nations, convenient for the United States, and convenient for Mexico to strengthen North America and subsequently strengthen the entire American continent, just as the European community was initially created and became later in the European Union,” he indicated.

He stated that for this happen, a pact is required where it is integrated, but which has clear rules to prevent the sovereignty of countries from being put at risk.
“This is how we should integrate into Americathat is what is best for the new generations, but a Pact of mutual respect for our sovereignties is needed, clear rules, because Mexico does not want to be a protectorate, nor a colony of any foreign country, Mexico wants to remain a free country , independent, sovereign” he added.
The president attended the 110th anniversary of the defense of the Port of Veracruz at the Heroic Naval Military School, where he remembered the history of the relations that Mexico has had with the United States.
He indicated that in the past there have been moments of tension such as in the two invasion attempts where he defended himself from Veracruz, but he maintained that now there is a cordial relationship where they have joined and there have been investments and he pointed out that it is convenient to have a close relationship.
At the event, 384 students (of which 122 were women and 262 men) became cadets by performing the protocol act of swearing in the flag as a commitment to the country.
He said that a relationship of respect is currently maintained, which is why he has even spoken with the current president about the convenience of maintaining close relations as they currently exist.
“There is a lot of respect for the United States governments and I hope that this good neighbor policy is maintained,” said López Obrador.
