Rio – A Botafogo’s 2-1 victory over LDU, this Wednesday (8), at the Nilton Santos Stadium, unfortunately had VAR as one of the protagonists of the night. The technology took time impressive ten minutes to cancel out a goal scored by the Ecuadorians in the first half. After the match, coach Artur Jorge regretted the break in rhythm during the break, but avoided focusing on the equipmentwhich he defined as “an accessory to the game”.

“The delay often has to do with the difficulty of analyzing the bid and also with the tools used. From then on we are exposed to what time is needed. Whether or not we have the best tools, I don’t know, I’m not an expert on that. The fact is that it’s a long time, this affects it because it breaks the rhythm of the game”, lamented the Portuguese.

“We had 15 minutes of great intensity, we had a fantastic start to the game, the players had a very good rhythm to the game, it was strong, it was intense, it was aimed at the goal. This moment ends up breaking that a little, but I think we have to talk of football, the game, how the spectacle was. How fair the victory was for Botafogo, the dedication of all the athletes. That’s what we have to focus on, and stop talking about what is accessory to the game”, he added. .

Artur also praised Glorioso’s performance, highlighting the good performance by Óscar Romero, who came on in the second half and assisted Júnior Santos to define the victory.

“I’m satisfied with his performance, he played an important role today too. I like to say that the importance of players comes from those who know how to take advantage of opportunities. Some can have 80 minutes, others nine, others 45. They have to be prepared and capable to add value to the team when they are called up. We, at Botafogo, will live according to what the options may be. If we have 23 players ready, we will certainly be closer to success. Some will play more than others, some will not play, but they contribute energy to their colleagues”, declared the coach.

“More than talking about individual issues, I highlight the collective, which was the strength of the team. The team recovered after having a not very positive result and today they won again and are in a more comfortable position. We are chasing the losses of first two rounds”, he concluded.

The victory left Botafogo in second place in Group D, with 6 points, behind leader Junior Barranquilla only on goal difference. In the last two rounds of the group stage, the Rio team will play away from home: on May 16th, against Universitario, in Lima, and on the 28th, against Barranquilla itself, in Colombia.

Now, Glorioso turns its key to the Brazilian Championship. The next challenge will be against Fortaleza, on Sunday (12)at 4pm (Brasília time), in Castelão.
