Rio – Botafogo tried everything, fought until the end, but was defeated by Bahia 2-1, this Sunday (5), at Nilton Santos, for the 5th round of the Brasileirão. Alvinegro came up behind on the scoreboard, had two goals disallowed and was unable to avoid the defeat, which cost them the lead in the championship. Coach Artur Jorge took responsibility for the result and explained the decisions during the game.

“My job is to make decisions. We had more balls in the corridors, we tried to put one more man next to Junior Santos. We opted for Barboza because he is tall. We tried to win the game, that was the intention. We tried to strategically assemble the team to reach the second goal I have to take on this responsibility. It’s about trying to win and that, when we lose, we have the ambition to win”, he said.

Defender Alexander Barboza came on during the second half and was improvised in attack. The Portuguese coach’s idea was to increase the number of players in the area and have more chances to complete the plays created by the side. However, the team gave up more space and conceded the defeat in the final minutes. Artur Jorge demonstrated dissatisfaction with the performance and reiterated the need for evolution.

“What evaluates us is essentially the result. It was not the result we wanted and expected. We have to give merit to the opponent, who is a good team and individually with good players. We had opportunities, we created, we scored three goals, only one of which He said. From then on, it’s the result that we are not happy with at all. We are therefore dissatisfied with what we produced”, he concluded.

With the defeat, Botafogo remained with nine points, lost the lead in the Brasileirão and now occupies third place. Bahia, in turn, takes second place, with 10, and has the same score as the new leader Athletico-PR. Alvinegro returns to the field next Wednesday (8), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), against LDU, from Ecuador, at Nilton Santos, for the 4th round of the Libertadores group stage.
