At the moment, no damage or injuries have been reported – El Financiero

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake shook Chiapas on the afternoon of this Monday, April 29, as reported by the National Seismological Service. The epicenter would have been 23 kilometers from Tonalá and no injuries or victims were reported at the time.

He earthquake occurred at 5:42 p.m., and at the moment Civil Protection of Chiapas carries out the corresponding monitoring to verify any possible damage registered in properties. The seismic alert did not sound after the earthquake.

“So far, no injuries or damage have been reported,” the agency said.

According to SkyAlert, The earthquake had a depth of 123 kilometersand its perception was slight, which ruled out the possibility that it caused strong movements despite the magnitude.

Initially it had been reported that the magnitude was 5.7, in addition to the fact that the epicenter was 27 kilometers from Villaflores with a depth of 80 kilometers; However, after an update it was verified that it was lower than what was recorded.

The National Coordination of Civil Protection confirmed that there were no damages or effects after the 5.1 magnitude earthquakeand that they will maintain monitoring throughout the day.

SkyAlert explained in recent months that although earthquakes exceed magnitude 5the seismic alert does not sound if there is not enough intensity for the sensors to detect a risk to the population based on the movement generated.

Reports indicate that it was only noticeable in Chiapas, part of Tabasco and Oaxaca, while in Mexico City it was imperceptible, according to SkyAlert.

Mexico has reported throughout April some earthquakes greater than magnitude 5, being one of the months with the most tremors so far this year. None of them have caused any damage or victims because their intensity is mild.
