Rio – Marco Nanini is back on stage after seven years away from theater. The eternal Lineu, from TV Globo’s “A Grande Família”, is showing with the play “Traidor”, at Teatro Prio, in the South Zone of Rio, until April 28th. In conversation with the DAYthe actor gives details about the show, which has been a success among the public, and talks about characters that marked his career.

“It’s a contemporary play, the text portrays the world we live in today. We are all traitors in today’s world, we betray ourselves when we seek to satisfy what is expected of us. The character is restless and in a kind of delirium, among a thousand reflections, the themes change in a matter of seconds. It is a text that reflects this era where we are immersed in the digital, in artificial intelligence, but that reflects on the human. , we still have the possibility of having a face-to-face and human experience, which is theater”, he explains.

“Traitor” is the result of an intense exchange of messages between Nanini, Gerald Tomas and Fernando Libonati. The actor reveals what the process of creating the new project was like. “When I realized, the previous show with Gerald was already 18 years old, I thought it had been yesterday. In this interval, we continued talking, meeting and even planning other works together, but they ended up not happening, like a film and another play. This time, the process was similar to that of ‘Circus’, he sent daily emails with the text he was writing and we exchanged opinions, it was a construction process over a period of time, between the end of 2022 and November 2023 when we debut in São Paulo”, he says.

And the artist doesn’t hide his excitement about returning to the stage. “I really wanted to meet the audience again. We went through a very difficult time, which was the pandemic, in which we struggled to continue working, doing theater in some way, as was the case with the project ‘As Cadeiras’, a text of filmed theater where we respect the actors’ theatrical time. At the launch, we made a point of being present in each city to be able to exchange with the public. With ‘Traidor’, I resume the daily meeting with the audience, and it is truly something essential for me, It’s what fills me with energy to keep working, living well and wanting to do things. During all these years of my career, I’ve never been away from the stage for such a long time and I hope I won’t be any longer”, he says.

One of the themes covered by the show is the digital revolution. Regarding her relationship with social media and how she deals with the exhibition, Nanini explains that she ends up using the tools more to publicize her projects and research inspiration. “I have nothing against social media, on the contrary, I really like exploring, seeing friends’ profiles, missing people I don’t see often, I like watching videos of animals, children, finding out about a certain subject. I spend a lot of time on YouTube doing research. It’s something that I even started using in my creative process, I get some references for characters in these videos. I don’t usually post or take photos of personal moments, I’m too clumsy for that. plus my networks to promote my work, it’s a very good tool to bring us closer to the public”, he points out.

Striking characters

Marcos Nanini played the eternal Lineu for almost 14 years, from “A Grande Família”, a TV Globo series that aired from 2001 to 2014. The artist also shone as characters such as Pancrácio, in “Êta Mundo Bom”, from the same broadcaster, Tony Albuquerque and sister Cleide, in the play “Irma Vap”, and João de Deus, in the film “João Sem Deus – A Queda da Abadiânia”.

For the actor, there is no way to define which role marked him the most over the years. “The characters are like children and we will never choose a favorite child. I have enormous affection for them all because they are all also part of me. Some stay longer and leave an impression on us more, as was the case with Lineu or the characters in Irma Vap , for years and years on display. But I couldn’t say what had the most impact because for me they all leave some mark”, he says.
