In this close head-to-head between Biden and Trump, the proportion of those who say they have a great interest The presidential race has reached its lowest level in nearly 20 years, with only 64 percent of registered voters having a high interest in the election.

This is a significantly lower figure. that the collection by NBC News on these dates in the presidential races of 2008 (74 percent), 2012 (67 percent), 2016 (69 percent) and 2020 (77 percent).

The survey was carried out from April 12 to 16, at a very turbulent time in American politics, coinciding with the beginning of Trump’s criminal trial in New York, as well as new attacks and heightened tensions in the Middle East.

On what issues does Biden have an advantage over Trump?

Although Biden, 81, surpasses Trump, 77, on the issues related to the right to abortion and the unification of the country, the former Republican president is ahead in matters of competition and management of inflation.

This latest nationwide survey of the channel NBCNews find that Inflation and immigration top the list of the most important problems facing the country, while only a third of voters give Biden credit for an improving economy.

Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, who conducted the survey with Republican Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies, said, “Americans don’t agree on much these days, but nothing unites the country more than the desire to stop paying attention to these elections.”

The survey shows that the two candidates are essentially tied among independent voters (Biden 36 percent, Trump 34 percent) and among those ages 18 to 34 (Biden 44 percent, Trump 43 percent).

“One of the great mysteries of the polls this cycle is whether young voters have deserted Biden,” or whether Democrats have maintained their advantage among this demographic group, the survey indicates.

In this context, the survey highlights how low voter interest and the independent candidacy of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. “potentially complicate what has been a stable presidential race more than six months before Election Day.”

Although Trump has a two percentage point advantage over Biden in the direct confrontation, the Democratic president leads the former Republican president by two points (39 percent -37 percent) in a vote between five candidates that includes Kennedy (13 percent ) and other third party candidates.
