Bolsonaro is hospitalized again in Manaus and is not expected to be discharged | Brazil

The former president of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro (PL) was hospitalized again in Manaus this Sunday, 5th, to treat a skin infection, after passing through the hospital and discharged last Saturday (4), for the same problem. According to a post on Bolsonaro’s official profile, there is no forecast for an increase.

The former president has been in Amazonas since Friday the 3rd, met with political allies in the state and participated in a PL event with former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro.

According to deputy Captain Alberto Neto (PL-AM), who is an ally of the former president and pre-candidate for Mayor of Manaus, Bolsonaro is in a hospital in the capital of Amazonas to receive treatment against erysipelas, a skin infection that affects the arm and leg of the former chief executive.

This Saturday, during PL Mulher’s state event, Bolsonaro spoke to supporters with his arm bandaged, and stated that he had been admitted to Hospital Santa Júlia de Manaus, with erysipelas and dehydration. He returned to the medical center this Sunday morning and will be under observation.

“When people’s immunity drops due to a variety of problems, erysipelas is a common occurrence. So I’m already medicated, calm, ready for another. Thanks, Amazonas,” said the former president upon leaving the hospital on Saturday.

According to Alberto Neto, Bolsonaro should return to Brasília on Monday, the 6th. “The former president returned to the hospital to continue his medication and remains under observation for a better evolution of his clinical condition,” said the deputy.

As it is a bacterial infection, erysipelas is treated with antibiotics. Depending on the severity of the condition, signs of improvement begin to appear within 48 hours of starting the medication.

It is not the first time that the former president has faced an episode with this skin infection. In November 2022, when he was still President of the Republic, Bolsonaro canceled agendas due to the same problem. At the time, the then vice-president, Hamilton Mourão, said that the illness prevented the then-president from wearing pants.
