Rio – Botafogo took no notice of Juventude and thrashed their opponent 5-1 at the Nilton Santos Stadium, this Sunday, 21st, in the third round of the 2024 Brazilian Championship. Júnior Santos, Tiquinho Soares, Danilo Barbosa, Savarino and Jacob Montes made the goals of the black and white victory. In the final stretch, Danilo Boza scored for the Caxias do Sul team, who played with one man less for much of the match after Lucas Freitas was sent off.

With the result, Glorioso reached six points and took third place in the Brasileirão. Now, Botafogo becomes the key to the Libertadores.

Coach Artur Jorge’s team returns to the field on Wednesday, at 7pm, to face Universitario (PER) at the Nilton Santos Stadium. The match counts for the third round of Group D of the continental competition. The next match in the Brasileirão will be against Flamengo, at 11am on Sunday, at Maracanã.

THE GAME

Botafogo started the match with a blistering pace at the Nilton Santos Stadium. Glorioso put pressure on Juventude in the attacking field to quickly regain possession of the ball and seek the goal. The strategy worked, and coach Artur Jorge’s team opened up a good lead in less than ten minutes.

At four, Savarino went for the corner kick and lifted the ball into the area. Danilo Barbosa finished first, the ball deflected off the defense and fell at the feet of Júnior Santos, who finished to fill the net. The assistant even flagged offside, but the VAR confirmed that Raio’s position was legal.

The second goal came after nine minutes. Danilo Barbosa stole the ball in the attacking field, invaded the area and was brought down. The referee then signaled the penalty. Tiquinho Soares took the penalty and scored.

From ten onwards, Juventude reorganized itself on the field. Thus, he closed better and started to balance the match. Around the 15th minute, Jean Carlos found Gatito’s net, but the move was canceled on the field due to offside. At another moment, Nenê had a chance inside the area, but Bastos arrived at the right time to block and make the cut.

In the final stretch of the first half, the scenario changed. This is because Lucas Freitas received a yellow card and was sent off. The fact once again unbalanced the match, and Alvinegro once again brought danger to the goal defended by Gabriel.

In the complementary stage, Botafogo stepped on the accelerator and increased their advantage. At nine minutes, Artur Jorge’s team scored the third goal in a beautiful collective play. Marlon Freitas made a great pass to Damián Suárez, who crossed low to Savarino. The midfielder, in turn, passed it to Júnior Santos, who dribbled the marking, advanced and crossed low to Danilo Barbosa. Free from marking, the midfielder only had the job of pushing the ball into the back of the net.

At 16, Alvinegro turned the victory into a rout. Around the 14th minute, Hugo was brought down at the edge of the area, and the referee signaled the foul. Savarino took the penalty, finished with class and scored. The ball even hit the crossbar before going in.

The victory was a matter of time, but Glorioso kept going and reached the fifth goal at the 35-minute mark. Diego Hernández made a good move on the right side and crossed for Jacob Montes. The number 32 was free from marking and submitted a cross with his left leg to fill Juventude’s net. In the final stretch, Danilo Boza scored for Juventude with a header.
