Boulder police warned residents that mailed checks have been stolen recently.
Detectives have taken at least 15 reports of thieves stealing checks that were mailed using the U.S. Postal Service, sccording to a Boulder Police Department post on the social media site X.

The stolen money totals more than $120,000 over the course of the past several months.
Many of the checks were going and coming from the IRS or the Boulder County Treasurer’s Office, according to the post.
To avoid check thefts, officers suggest that you make payments online or in person, especially for large amounts like property taxes. Additionally, police recommended you put tracking information on your payment, and follow up to confirm that the entity has received your payment.
