Broomfield Town Square is on track to start in 2025

The Broomfield Town Square Alliance project around the former Safeway building north of West 120th Avenue and east of Main Street remains on track, with construction expected to start in spring 2025, based on a recent presentation to the City Council.

The 39-acre site is expected to include up to 643 residential units north of East First Avenue and up to 187,000 square feet of commercial development, including the redevelopment of the former Safeway site into a market hall, according to information on the Broomfield city website. Officials have worked on the plan since January 2017, according to the website.

The City Council approved a site plan for the project in September, which includes apartments, townhomes, restaurants and other areas for commercial development and a lake. Broomfield owns the property in question.

In other news, the City Council also discussed the city and county’s proposed drought plan update at its most recent meeting. The plan includes a mandatory watering schedule from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. three days per week. The plan also outlines how Broomfield officials monitor for drought conditions, how city officials declare a drought and drought mitigation measures, among other things.

Proposed changes include the new mandatory standard watering schedule at night, regardless of drought conditions. Residents who don’t comply with water use restrictions could pay more in fines than they do right now. Water customers also may pay drought surcharge to make up for lost revenue in the case of water restrictions.

Council members approved the first reading of an ordinance about the proposed drought plan changes at their most recent meeting.

The Broomfield City Council meets at 6 p.m. most Tuesdays in the George Di Ciero City and County Building, 1 Descombes Drive. The public is welcome to attend in person or virtually at broomfield.org/live.
