More support for young people, the improvement of healthcare system and access to a decent housing are some of the proposals that we have heard from candidates for Head of Government of Mexico City (CDMX) heading to the elections 2024.
Clara Brugadafrom Morena, PT and PVEM; Santiago Taboadafrom the PRI, PAN and PRD alliance, as well as Solomon Chertorivskystandard bearer of the Citizen Movement (MC) have not tired of repeating the same approaches throughout the Electoral campaigns.
The problem is that several of these proposals are ‘recycled’ and some of them even remind us of a former presidential candidate who governs Mexico today: Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).
The three candidates have also accused each other of “copy” ideas. Last March, Brugada referred to Taboada as a “pirate candidate”after stating that the PAN candidate was making propaganda with projects and social programs promoted by the Fourth Transformation.

Taboada and Brugada: What government proposals did they copy from AMLO?

‘Your first home’ / Reform to Infonavit
Continuing with the proposals for young people, PAN member Santiago Taboada promised to promote the program ‘Young Housing’ either ‘Your first home’ to support the under 35 years old with subsidies on the prices of rent and sale of houses or apartments.
He said this would allow them the opportunity to access a “affordable and central” house using the budget of the Housing Institute (Invi).
Just in February of this year, President López Obrador announced a Infonavit reform which proposes a new housing scheme for the benefit of registered young workers.
The idea is that Infonavit builds cheap homes and put houses for rent at very low prices, so that the monthly payments do not exceed 30 percent of salary from the workers. After 10 years By maintaining the payment, employees will now have the opportunity to acquire it at “fair prices.”
Universal support for older adults / Wellbeing Pension
In her events with supporters, Clara Brugada has promised a Universal economic support for people aged 57 to 60 as a transition measure towards the universal pension for older adults currently provided by the federal government.
Since the beginning of his six-year term, the president promised an increase in the pension for older adults throughout the country, which increases every year. At the end of last year, AMLO reported that he was already preparing a reform to article 4 of the Constitution which, among other things, has the objective of reducing the age at which older adults will access the pension from 68 to 65 years.
