Rio – Flamengo was angry with the refereeing after the draw with Bragantino, this Saturday (4), for the 5th round of the Brazilian Championship. Rubro-Negro complained about two incidents: the non-expulsion of defender Luan Cândido, canceled after a VAR recommendation in the first half, and a possible penalty on Luiz Araujo in the final stage. Striker Bruno Henrique made harsh criticisms.

“We don’t want to talk about refereeing, but there’s no way. Against Flamengo it’s all different. Today we had a move that got the red card taken away and, now at the end, a questionable move too that the referee didn’t score and the VAR didn’t call it. No We know what the refereeing criteria are. Football is getting worse and worse. They employ professionals who can’t do the simple things,” he said.

In the first half, De La Cruz was brought down by Luan Cândido at the edge of the area. The defender was the last man and was sent off. Referee Paulo Cesar Zanovelli was called by the VAR to review the play on video, and identified a foul by the Uruguayan on Pedro Henrique. In the final stage, Flamengo complained about a possible penalty on Luiz Araujo, knocked down in a play without the ball.

With the result, Flamengo reached eight points and moved up to fourth place. Bragantino is third, with nine. Rubro-Negro returns to the field next Tuesday (7), at 9pm (Brasília time), against Palestino, away from home, in the 4th round of the Libertadores group stage.
