Barra Mansa – This Tuesday morning (30), the mayor of Barra Mansa, Rodrigo Drable, participated in the reopening of the ‘Café do Trabalhador’, in the Vila Nova neighborhood. The project is an initiative of the State Secretariat for Social Development and Human Rights, in partnership with the Municipality of Barra Mansa, through the Municipal Secretariat for Social Assistance and Human Rights (SMASDH). The event was attended by the secretary of SMASDH, Fanuel Fernando; councilor Cristina Magno; and residents, in addition to Ricardo Maciel Raimundo, representing his family who owns the newsstand where Café do Trabalhador is located.

The Café do Trabalhador program aims to facilitate access to the first meal of the day and reduce the population’s food and nutritional insecurity, offering from Monday to Friday, from 6 am, 500 kits per day, consisting of pure coffee or with milk, bread with butter and a fruit, worth R$ 0.50.

The mayor of Barra Mansa, Rodrigo Drable, highlighted how food insecurity involves concern and uncertainty regarding access to food in the future and expressed the joy of delivering yet another piece of equipment that is the result of a lot of work and dedication.
“I’m happy to participate in this moment, because the sum of small things transforms our daily lives. First we were able to offer Café do Trabalhador, and now, thanks to Ricardo’s family, we are delivering the service in this new location. Furthermore, we have Restaurante do Povo, serving 2,500 meals a day, and on our visits we meet people who really cannot afford to eat the three main meals of the day. It’s gratifying to see everyone’s eyes light up when they pick up a plate of food. Furthermore, we will soon have a new health unit in this neighborhood, which will be one of the largest in Barra Mansa”, said Drable.

The Secretary of Social Assistance, Fanuel Fernando, highlighted the importance of the work carried out by the department and its partnerships. “The change in the location of the Café is a win-win for everyone. The project left a temporary location and today we are here reopening in a cozy space with a dignified structure. Mayor Rodrigo Drable and the entire secretariat team are always concerned with the well-being of our citizens, always seeking the best service. I would also like to thank Ricardo and his family, for providing the space, councilor Furlani and governor Cláudio Castro and his entire team”, stated Fanuel.

Ricardo Maciel Raimundo, representative of the family that owned the newsstand, spoke about the opportunity and gratitude of representing his family. “My family has a history of more than 80 years operating newsstands in Barra Mansa. We can say that we have been working on this since the newspapers arrived in the city. Being able to provide this stand for the municipality to install the Café do Trabalhador is a huge joy, as we need a world with more cooperation and less competition. I am here representing my parents and I can say that we are all very happy,” he said.

During the ceremony, councilor Cristina Magno honored the Café do Trabalhador team by delivering a motion to each of the employees: Oleacir Martins Flores; Peterson Pimentel; Darlene Cruz; Pamela Cristina; Gilmar Salles.
