Rio – This Wednesday (8), CCR Barcas donated 370 life jackets, divided between adult and child sizes, to help rescue victims of the floods that are ravaging Rio Grande do Sul.

The vests will be used in rescue operations for people stranded due to heavy rain. O number of deaths caused by the storms rose to 105 confirmed cases and four under investigation this Wednesday. According to the report released by Civil Defense, the number of injured also rose to 372, and at least 130 people are missing.

The items were delivered to the National Union of Sailors and Machinists in Maritime and River Transport, which was responsible for sending them, in response to the request made by the Rio Grande do Sul Crisis Office.

Navy sends largest warship in Latin America

The Brazilian Navy sent, on Wednesday afternoon, the Multipurpose Aircraft Ship (NAM) “Atlântico”, the largest warship in Latin America, to help victims of floods and rains in Rio Grande do Sul.

The NAM “Atlântico” is transporting two mobile water treatment stations, capable of producing a total of 20 thousand liters of drinking water per hour, in order to meet part of the demand in cities that have suffered from shortages since the dams broke. It also has vessels, equipment, fuel, supplies and various health professionals. The ship also has an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
