To celebrate Children’s Day and Jazz Day simultaneously, the Faculty of Music (FAMUS) of the UANL organized a special concert aimed at children at the University Theater located on the Mederos Campus.
Alicia Parra, coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Contemporary Popular Music, was in charge of starting the show where three different groups played various jazz songs, covering original songs by artists such as Bob Marley and Natalia Lafourcade, as well as some classics of the genre. .
The concert, which ran nimbly for an hour in the venue, also became a small educational space in which the children present interacted with the three vocalists while each of them explained to them some of the musical instruments used when performing music. jazz.
The violin, harmonica, clarinet and electric bass were some of the instruments that the boys and girls were able to observe and delve into their functioning and presence within a musical ensemble.
The first performer opened the show with “Johnny B. Goode” by Chuck Berry, a blues song that has left history in music by being part of multiple specialized lists such as Rolling Stone, which point to it as one of the best songs of all time. time. She later continued with the bolero “You got me used to it.”
The second ensemble continued the line of classics, but turning to the swing style, with “Everything happens to me”, a song released by Frank Sinatra in the 1940s, but which has currently been covered by various artists. One of the most recent is the actor Timothée Chamalet, who plays her in the film “A rainy day in New York” (2019).
Finally, the third group moved forward in time to perform more contemporary songs such as “Johnny was” by Bob Marley and “In the opposite direction” by Natalia y la Forquetina.
The three vocalists took advantage of their intermediate moments to talk about the jazz genre and its benefits, pointing out that the emotionality, freedom and freshness of this musical style has a positive impact on our state of mind.
