Chicago police officer shot overnight in Gage Park neighborhood, CPD confirms

CHICAGO — The Chicago Police Department confirmed early Sunday morning an officer was shot overnight in the Gage Park neighborhood on the city’s Southwest Side.

Preliminary information indicates officers received a report of a person down around 3 a.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of West 56th Street. According to police dispatch audio, minutes before, a ShotSpotter alert was also received, indicating shots fired in the 5500 block of South Kedzie Avenue.

Chicago police have not said whether the officer shot was was on duty at the time or confirmed what allegedly led up to the shooting.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, it transported an adult male from the scene to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

Chicago police are expected to provide an update shortly from the hospital. No additional information on any arrests or potential suspects has been released.
