Petropolis – The City Hall, through the Department of Health, started the second stage of the campaign to neuter and microchip dogs and cats. The action, which aims to control the animal population on the streets and prevent zoonotic diseases, is being carried out in the Parque Municipal Prefeito Paulo Rattes, in the district of Itaipava.
“This action is very important because it aims to control the excessive circulation of animals on the streets and with this we can also control the occurrences of bites, other accidents and also the diseases of these animals which are called zoonoses”, highlights Mayor Rubens Bomtempo.
By next Tuesday, May 14, it is expected that more than a thousand dogs and cats will be neutered and microchipped. “It is the second cycle of castration this year, 2024,” added Mayor Bomtempo.
The Secretary of Health, Ricardo Patuléa, explained the process that animals go through during the campaign. “Every day the animals meet their owners through pre-registration carried out by Environmental Surveillance itself. Here, they undergo screening and carry out the minimally invasive castration procedure”, he said, praising the work carried out by the Secretariat’s technical sectors.
The animals, according to the Environmental Surveillance coordinator, Simone Sisnando, after carrying out the procedure, also receive antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medication to avoid complications from the procedure and microchipping is also carried out, which aims to identify the animal if it is found lost on the street”, he highlights.
Castrations of animals registered for the third stage will take place between May 17th and 21st at CEU da Posse.
