The Chinese-Indonesian Paper Excellence appears willing to do anything to prevent the expansion of Eldorado Brasil Celulose. Even voting for its arch-rival J&F Investimentos to put more than R$1 billion in its pocket. The curious case occurred at the Eldorado shareholder meeting, held last Tuesday (30). Paper and J&F are disputing 100% of Eldorado in court, but, for now, the foreign company has 49.5% of the shares and the Brazilian company 50.5%. In the six years of litigation, both always voted for Eldorado not to distribute dividends to shareholders, reserving the profit for future investments. But it was enough for J&F to signal that it would support the immediate start of Eldorado’s expansion project, two weeks ago, for Paper to change its mind and defend that the pulp company’s R$2.3 billion in profits in 2023 be distributed to shareholders – more than R$1 billion for each.
Representative Antônio Brito (BA) announced that he remains a pre-candidate for president of the Chamber. He says that he has the full support of the PSD bench, his party, and the non-partisan front, including the sympathy of a large part of evangelicals – who can also support Marcos Pereira (Republicanos-SP).
