Cook County Public Health warns of possible measles exposure at Sam's Club in Evergreen Park

EVERGREEN PARK, Ill. — Cook County’s Department of Public Health is warning locals about possible measles exposure at an Evergreen Park-area Sam’s Club.

CCDPH says visitors of the south suburban Sam’s Club located at 9400 S. Western Avenue may have been exposed to a person contagious with measles on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, between 10 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.

The infected Chicago resident was a known case to health officials.

The news release stated, “The individual is a Chicago resident, and CCDPH is coordinating with the Chicago Department of Public Health on this investigation. There is no known link between the Chicago resident and the recent measles cases associated with a city shelter for new arrivals.”

Health officials suggest that anyone who may have been exposed review their immunization records and/or ensure they are up-to-date on the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.

People potentially exposed to measles should monitor symptoms, including rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes.

Symptoms can take 7 to 21 days to appear.

As of Monday, April 15, health officials have confirmed 64 cases of measles in Illinois, 58 of which are from Chicago. The remaining cases are in Will, Lake, DuPage and suburban Cook counties.
