CHICAGO — The purpose of the STEAM curriculum, short for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math, is to reach kids differently and innovatively.
At Chicago’s Alexander Graham Bell School, it’s the kind of project that would make its namesake proud. Learning during the critical, formative years that will ring true for years, a group of middle schoolers’ hole-in-one approach can be summed up in one word — teamwork.
As for the finished project, two words will do: putt-putt or miniature golf.
From the initial prototypes of each hole and its conceptual design to the acquisition of building materials, mini-golf was no small lesson in how to get it done — together.
“It was really cool being able to do this with my friends and stuff,” 7th grader Mia Fojtik said.
